Today is the day. Put away your emulators. The trippy cult-favorite RPG Earthbound, which launched in 1995 on the Super Nintendo, is now available for download on the Wii U eShop for $9.99. Folks have been waiting forever. Unfortunately, the game is not available on any other Virtual Console. Just the Wii U.
But this still marks the first digital appearance of the game in North America, despite its release on Virtual Console in Japan some time ago. And with the series’ creator saying a sequel would be “impossible,” this will probably be your only chance to play it, unless of course you want to fiddle with emulators or fork over a bundle on eBay.
A free virtual Earthbound strategy guide is even being offered on the game’s official site, and its optimized for use on the Wii U GamePad.
