I have to admit I’m a little upset with myself for how much Dragon Age: Until We Sleep #2 caught me by surprise. I’ve played every Dragon Age game plus read every book and comic. So I should have at least not been surprised by the way the events in this comic occurred. But I was. I was expecting things to pick up right after Varric shot that red orb in the last comic. Which they do, but not in any way I was thinking they might. I’m not going to spoil what happens but I am very pleasantly surprised with how well the writing takes the story and keeps me surprised.
The art in this issue was really fun as there are a lot different settings throughout it. So, instead of mostly being in a castle like last time we get to see a lot of different areas. Plus, we get to see past version of Alistair and Isabela. Alistair was about how I think anyone familiar with him would expect, but Isabela I almost did not recognize. It was great to catch of glimpse of who she was before the events int he comics and Dragon Age 2. While it was never specifically said we also find out how Bianca got her name. Which is a story I’d live to get the full details on at some point but for now just the glimpse into Varric’s past was enough.
These Dragon Age comics keep getting better and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this story arc ends in the next issue. Hopefully there are more Dragon Age series coming down the line because it would be a shame not to see this greatness continue.
