I have been really enjoying the Planetoid series so far and Planetoid #5 continues that trend. However, it also really caught me by surprise. I’ll try to stay fairly spoiler free, but some general plot items will be discussed.
As we saw in the last issue there is a war coming between Ono Mao’s robots and the tribe of survivors that Silas leads. Before that though Silas has to get back and that part is fairly humorous. Nearly a third of this issue is the battle and it is spectacular. There was very little dialog during the fight but it beautifully shows the gory casualties on both sides.
I don’t want to spoil where the story goes next but I was surprised by the specifics of how things played out. I suppose the overall ending itself had plenty of foreshadowing but seeing it play out was not what I expected. Still, it was not that I did not like the ending or anything. Just that it caught me by surprise.
I really have to go back to how good this issue looks. It is more colorful and bright than I remember the past issues being, and the fight scenes are great. They portray the action and movement of the battle perfectly. The panel layout of the battles ties the various parts of it together really well. If you’ve been reading Planetoid so far I’m sure you were already looking forward to issue 5, but if not you really should hunt down the first 4 issues and read them. Then you’ll be ready when this issues releases next week.
