Deadline.com just broke news that J.J. Abrams the mastermind behind the hit reboot of Star Trek, and such great TV shows as LOST, Fringe and Person of Interest will be directing the next Star Wars film, which is currently in pre-production at Walt Disney Studios. It’s also being reported that Ben Afleck was in the running to helm Episode VII. Walt Disney Studios bought Lucasfilm last year and is slated to release a new round of Star Wars films starting with the Abrams Episode VII in 2015. The film will be written by Oscar winner Michael Arndt.
There is no word on what this deal between Disney and Abrams might mean for the future of his Star Trek reboots. Star Trek is distributed by Disney rival Paramount.
