This review contains some spoliers
I am excited to have a regular Doctor Who comic series under way again. The specials are fun but having a regally monthly issue to look forward to is better. Doctor Who Volume 3 kicks off with part 1 of “Hypothetical Gentleman”. Its the Pond’s wedding anniversary and while they are looking to sneak away for a bit the Doctor has other plans and heads them off to London in 1851. They head to the Crystal Palace the night before it is set to open so they can get a sneak peak. While they are there giving themselves a tour they hear a scream. They find a man who is frozen in time.
It seems a local telepath received instructions on how to build a quantum resonator in a trance and her husband was able to build thing. Although neither of them knew what it was, how it worked or even what language the instructions were in. We get quite a bit of interesting back story from them as they realize they trouble they could be in and that the Doctor is trying to help. The Doctor did ask for them to tell him everything so it is fitting that they do.
Once the Doctor knows a little more about what is going on he and Amy set off to trace the source of the power that activated the resonator. Only that leads them back to the TARDIS. While they are gone a black shape reaches out of the resonator and reaches into Rory’s chest. With these 2 big events as cliffhangers the comic ends for the month. I love this type of Doctor Who story because we get to see the Doctor solve a mystery and come up with some really crazy plan to set everything right. It is what he does best and I should make for a great part 2 of Doctor Who Volume 3.
