Designer Toy Awards: MyPlasticHeart

New York City is known for having the best. And this is no exception to toy stores. When Designer Toy Awards announced their nominations, we could see there is 3 in New York City. Each one has something unique to offer. You can find MyPlasticHeart on Forsyth street.

MyPlasticHeart offers the latest and most exclusives in their store. But they also have galleries each month that feature an artist or theme. It’s going into a designer toy museum with every visit. I was lucky enough to have them answer some questions.

1. How did MyPlasticHeart start?

My wife and I started out as collectors and found a lack of stores selling what we were interested in so we decided to start our own. We opened up online in early 2004 and then our brick and mortar store in 2006 in the Lower East Side.
2. MyPlasticHeart has many shows at the store has their been one that you will always remember?

One of the most memorable shows we’ve had was actually our first group show featuring customs of 20 inch Zlik figures by Andrew Bell. There were over 20 of these monstrosities at our shop with designs from some of the most popular names in the business.

3. When MyPlasticHeart started, did you ever think you be nominated for such an award?

When MPH started there were no such things as awards for our niche industry so being nominated for such an award never crossed our minds. Although we are very honored to be included.

4. How does it feel to be considered one of the best Designer Toy stores in the country?

We are very humbled and honored to be nominated considering our categories were fan voted. It just means that there are fans out there that appreciate what we do and the work we put in all for the enjoyment of toys!

5. The Sucklord a NYC based artist is hosting, do you have any stories of him in the store?

All I can say for certain is that he enjoys beer. Whenever he comes around he heads straight to the cooler :)  All kidding aside… I remember seeing him many years ago selling his toys on Prince street so it’s great to see how far he’s gotten.

If your in the city, this is def a must stop for any toy lover. You can check out their site HERE.
