This review contains some spoilers.
‘m just going to start off by admitting that Star Wars: Vader & the Ghost Prison #5 was pretty much everything I was hoping for in the conclusion to this series and more. Tohm’s plan is put into action it proves effective. With Volta’s help they catch Tarkin’s transport. They join him and head to Coruscant. What follows is pretty much what was expected but no less enjoyable for it. Vader, Moff Trachta, Tohm and all the remaining prisoners take on Headmaster Gentis. They quickly destroy his forces and round up the remaining cadets from the coup.
The battle was really nicely done because even though it was not very long we get to see all the different characters in action. While it is going on we also get Tohm’s notes from his report of the whole incident which give insight to why they were able to quickly deal with such an overwhelming force. Tohm proves to be quite brutal singling out his old friends who betrayed the Emperor.
What happens next was what made this issue so great. I’m going to try and not spoil anything else about what that is though. We get to see how ruthless and brutal Tohm, Vader, Moff Trachta and the Emperor can really be in more than one situation. A couple times I was caught by surprise by events in the second half of this issue, but looking back they are fitting for the characters they involve. Star Wars: Vader & the Ghost Prison #5 is a great conclusion to what has been a really fun look at Darth Vader and those around him.
