To be nominated for an award is one thing, to be Huck Gee is another. He is one of the most sought after artist around. The UK native artist has fans around the globe and has done works with toys, art and is even a designer. Huck is also one of the few artist this year that is nominated for more than one award. Not only is he nominated for Artist of the Year but also is nominated for Fan Favorite and Best Mini Series.

Huck Gee had an amazing year and there is no question that he deserves to be nominated for Artist of the Year. It could be said the he had the most sought after toy at the Kidrobot Booth this year at San Diego Comic Con. The Skullslinger Tuco Edition had people lining up outside the convention center for hours. But most notable was his Gold Life series with Kidrobot. Kidrobot each year comes out with a few mini-series, best known for its dunny each year. One of the drops was the Gold Life by Huck Gee. It sold out very quickly and is one of the most sought after series to date.

One can only imagine what is next for the man, the myth, the legend of Huck Gee. With the popularity of Designer Toys increasing everyday, one can only imagine what is next for him. He was nice enough to answer some questions for us. Here they are…

1. How did you get into the Art World and start designing Toys?

Huck Gee: I’ve been doodling in one way, shape, form or another most of my adult life. My fascination with toys along with my graffiti and design background formed the base and it  all clicked into place once I met the founder of Kidrobot, Paul Budnitz. It’s been a wonderful journey ever since.

2. You are known as one of the best artist around, has their been a toy once it was done you were disappointed with?

Huck Gee: No. If I was disappointed with something it won’t get produced. However, there have been a few projects that I’ve banged my head into the wall or had to yell at some folks to get over hurdles. It’s expected when you deal with companies that have to worry about marketing, manufacturing costs, profit margins etc… and all I want to do is make art.

3. Did you ever imagine that one day you could be receiving an award for the Toys you make?

Huck Gee: Ha, no. I just wanted to draw. I didn’t have much foresight beyond that.

4. A fellow artist The Sucklord is hosting, any tips for him?

Huck Gee: More sucking, less talking.

5. You are one of the few artist to be nominated in different categories, how does that feel?

Huck Gee: That I must be doing something right. ;)
