Battle Beasts #3 was not what I was expecting for the next to last issue in the series. It was almost completely the telling of the back story of our three main beasts. We find out not just how Vorin, Gruntos and Merc joined forces but also what they fighting for. We get a good look at their history but there is more that Bliss thinks they are not telling. Most of this issue is told as they travel across town to the Department of Defense where Bliss works. When Vorin and Bliss get there and have a moment alone he finally fills here in in the rest of the details.
While there is a lot of peripheral fighting in this issue the only one of our three main beasts who gets any action is Gruntos. Even that little bit is not shown as the main part of the page. The issue is all about their race in getting to the Department of Defense building before the other beasts can. This leads to them getting split up as the travel. I’m curious how that will play out in the next issue as each of the beasts will have to deal with the situation alone until they can regroup.
The back story filled in almost all of the gaps in what we know about the beasts. That should allow issue #4 to focus on a lot of action and the current events without so many flash backs. As has been the case so far the art is really bright and fun throughout the comic. This issue may bot have been exactly what I was hoping for but it was still fun and has me looking forward to the next one.
