Star Wars: Darth Maul – Death Sentence is a weird series for me.  First, Darth Maul survived his  death in the movie and now has mechanical legs.  Plus, he has a brother who looks like him but with a yellow face.  Setting aside these things it is just weird to hear him talk after being so stoic and silent in the movie.

Darth Maul and his brother, Savage Opress, had Ja’Boag put a bounty on their heads.  They track him down and find out he did it to get their attention.  However, he underestimates the Sith and they plan to kill him anyway.  As the battle begins the Jedi arrive and are able to injure and chase off Darth Maul while encasing Savage Opress in carbonite.  However, there are injured as well and some ever requiring Bacta tanks. The jedi realize Ja’Boag was causing trouble on the planet but they have not yet found out the full extend of how much. The local population of the planet find the injured Darth Maul and work to heal him.  He wakes up and nearly slaughters them all until he realizes they helped him.  They agree to he his army as long as he will lead them against Ja’Boag to take back their mines.

There are just some parts of this that are just a little weird to me .  First, just looking at Darth Maul you would think the locals would realize just how evil and dangerous he is, but for some reason they decide to side with him.  Second, why would Darth Maul recognize a canister of carbonite but his brother doesn’t. Finally, why would the jedi not use their mind tricks to get someone to tell them what is going on with Ja’Boag on the planet. Maybe this still will get answered in the next issue, but this one left me with a lot of questions.  Fortunately there is a nice battle in the middle to keep things interesting.
