Star Trek The Next Generation Doctor Who Assimilation #4 brings us a little close to understanding what is going on with the Borg and Cybermen. Guinan and The Doctor both realize that something is very wrong in the universe. She also gives Captain Picard further reassurance that he can trust the Doctor and the Ponds. The Doctor still is not sure why the Cyberman would have allied with the Borg though.
While they are discussing the Borg and Cybermen fleet have changed course and no longer are headed to Earth. Instead they headed to a planet in the opposite direction and the Enterprise follows them to see why. When they arrive at Cogen V they find no one left alive. There are dead Bord and Cybermen, but no inhabitants. After some investigation we find that the Borg and Cybermen turned on each other, but no one is sure exactly what happened to the local population. The Doctor thinks the Cybermen took them for processing. As the Enterprise and the Doctor mull over this turn of events they are hailed by the Borg who are seeking a truce and an alliance against the Cybermen. Captain Picard promptly refuses even though the Doctor wants him to hear the Borg out.
There was very little action this time but we got a lot of the pieces of the story brought together. I’m hoping next issue we’ll get back to fighting against the Cybermen, or Borg, or both. Still, I like in this episode how Rory and Amy know their role and are not afraid to fill it. It is always fun to have them around.
