In the latest string of interviews for the Designer Toy Awards, we were lucky enough to get Buff Monster to answer some of our questions. Buff Monster is nominated this year for Artist of the Year. He is the complete opposite of the first artist we interviewed. Buff Monster likes to use pink in everything he does and cites heavy metal music, ice cream and Japanese culture as his three main areas he uses for influence.
Buff Monster doesn’t just work with toys but is well known for his prints. From galleries to toys, this artist has dabbled in every field. He was very busy with getting ready for San Diego Comic Con. There were booths that were offering exclusives. The DKE Booth was offering up special Misty Misfits trading cards and at 3DRetro you could get a variant color of the Boob Ball.
Here is the interview…
I like the variety. Lately, I’ve been very happy to work on ink drawings on paper.
I’ve always questioned conventions. Like when you go a heavy metal show, all you see is black shirts. So is that appropriate or simply a convention?
They emailed me. It’s very flattering to be nominated in the biggest category.
I never really gave it much thought. But I’m happy the DTAs exist.
