The first Star Wars: Knight Errant – Escape issue was fairly confusing due to the unfamiliar characters, locations and time period in the Star Wars universe. This time since I had a little back story already things made a bit more sense. I still don’t recognize all the side character’s names, but at least the main character, Kerra Holt, and the group immediately around here are. If you missed the first issue Kerra is a Jedi Knight who has disguised herself with the Sith to look for her parents.
The plot moves forward in Star Wars: Knight Errant – Escape #2 more than I was afraid it would after the first issue’s start, but I am actually a little disappointed by that is the story looks like it is starting to follow a fairly common path. The first issue was so different from any other Star Wars comic I’d read I was hoping the story line would be unique as well. While it still may be the foreshadowing does not seem like it. I guess we’ll have to see in the next few issues how that pans out.
Setting aside my fears about where the story is headed my real issue with the Star Wars: Knight Errant – Escape #2 is that Kerra makes some stupid mistakes. I realize she is a Jedi but when you’re disguised as a Sith, and surrounded by other Sith, you act like a Sith. You don’t do something that a Sith would not do, or if you do make a mistake once you don’t make more if them. More than once Kerra do things that make her stand out as being different from the other Sith, and that bugs me. In any story, comic based or otherwise, when the main character is making stupid decisions it really takes me out of the immersion of the story. If I can see the logical choice or action the character should as well.
It is not that this issue is bad, but I hope in the next couple we see Kerra acting smarter. I do like how the back story of how Kerra got on the search for news about her parents started in this comic, but it would have cleared up some of my confusions if that had been explained in Star Wars: Knight Errant – Escape #1. I’m still hopeful that next issue will fill in the last few gaps of my confusion and the story will turn out to be really unique and interesting. Guess we’ll have to wait until August to find that out.
