Steve Niles is becoming one of my favorite comic book writers. It may be the fact that I saw him at SDCC and he was very nice or maybe its just because the latest issue of 30 Days of Night is amazing. We last left off with the Vampires, which are led by Eben Olemaun. Eben is out trying to seek revenge for the death of his beloved Stella. Which who can really hurt the guy? You are already dead, so might as well go after the ones who have hurt you. Don’t really think Eben is afraid of anything. And on the other side of things we have Alice Blood who is trying to stop him and to trying to keep peace.

Once you finish this issue, you will be wanting more. We see Alice stuck in the FBI headquarters and what will happen between her and Eben if they meet? Also does Eben have a message for the police and FBI agents when they arrive? All of this is answered in just 24 pages. I couldn’t believe all of this could fit in and be such a quick read.

30 Days of Night #9 isn’t just a read for its story but a pick up issue for the art. It is masterfully done by Christopher Mitten. Each panel is dark and moves the reader into the dark underworld of vampires vs humans. We see in the world that people who are willing to step over anybody move to the top. But sometimes they allow their emotions to get in the way. Will this happen to Eben? He looks like a person that can control any situation but only time will tell.
