After checking out the Sunset: First Look earlier this week I was pretty excited to see how the story plays out. Nick Bellamy is a tough old-timer will not take crap from anyone. He went from serving in the military to bare-knuckle boxing to working as an enforcer for the mob in Vegas. He does however look out for his friends and family; even when they don’t want him to. 30 years ago he setup his boss, Gianelli, to take the fall for just some of his many crimes and in the process robbed him of 8 million dollars.  He and 2 accomplices split that cash and disappeared to live their likes out quietly.  Unfortunately, Gianelli’s lifetime sentence got reduced and he got out on parole and is looking for payback.

When Nick gets jumped at the supermarket by a few of Gianelli’s thugs he takes then out quickly, but ruthlessly.  He rushes home to find that his wife, who had been suffering from alzheimer’s, and her nurse were both already dead.  He takes his revenge on those guys responsible as they were still at the house and then packs up some guns and money to go after Gianelli.  I don’t want to spoil the rest of the story but there are some great twists in this story of revenge and redemption.

I mentioned in the first look I don’t read a lot of black and white comics, but in this case I found it fitting.  Nick Bellamy is the kind of guy who wouldn’t have a cell phone, buys in cash and would beat the crap out of you instead of sue you for a car accident.  So, the choice of the art style ties in with the story perfectly.  I’m going to admit I did not see the ending coming, but I still really enjoyed it.  If you like noir stories this one is worth checking out.
