I have to admit that I have not done a very good job keeping up with the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.  I think I am currently part way through season three. However, that did not stop me from reading Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Sith Hunters which is set to release on August 29, 2012. It is set between season 4 and season 5 of the tv series so I did not know exactly what all happened leading up to the events in The Sith Hunters but I did not find myself lost at any point.  Really, this could be a stand alone story set in the Clone Wars time period.

Graphically The Sith Hinters is a departure form most of the other Star Wars comics.  Its look is much more cartoon like fitting in with the animated series.  The style does not go completely to the look of the cartoon but does lean that direction quite a bit. The story introduced me to Savage Opress, Darth Maul’s brother, and Jedi Jun-Fan.  I suspect both had already been introduced in the tv series.  The story moves back and forth between Darth Maul and Savage Opress and the group of Jedi who are hunting them.  We don’t generally get a lot of stories from the view point of the bad guy so it was interesting to me to see their point of view played out.

While I enjoyed the book overall I was slightly disappointed with the lack of a real ending.  Neither the Jedi or the Sith get the resolution they were wanting and while I think the story will probably continue in the tv series the comic never actually says that.  So, it just kind of ends with a lot of the plot still hanging.  Personally, I’m hoping we see a Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Sith Hunters 2 some point down the line to fill in rest of the story.  Because the of the setting of The Clone Wars we know ultimately what happens for most of the characters involved but it would be nice to see the details played out.
