I have to admit I’m a little disappointed with the pacing of the Star Trek The Next Generation – Doctor Who Assimilation series so far. The first half of issue #2 gives us more back story on the Star Trek side of things, but other than to show how Riker and Data got in the same room as the Doctor and his companions it doesn’t seem to server any purpose.  Hopefully down the line this chunk of back story will tie in somehow, but right now it just seems like filler.

Fortunately, the second half finally brings our 2 groups together and thanks to Deanna the Star Trek crew is starting to learn that the Doctor, Amy and Rory can be trusted.  We don’t yet see how these two worlds have been put together, but the Doctor does know something is wrong since there are races and planets he has never heard of before.  And he knows every planet, solar system and galaxy.  We do see the pieces starting to come together at the very end as the Doctor is asking if they are the first “visitors” to arrive. Then, on the last page when the Doctor sees there a Cybermen he puts it together.  And that is how things end.

It has taken 2 full issues of back story to finally put the Star Trek crew and the Doctor in the same place.   Now we’ll have to see how they work together to defeat the Borg and Cybermen, and hopefully send the Doctor and his companions back to their own universe.  At the speed things are progressing though I suspect that will take quite a while. Still, hopefully in the next issue we’ll start to see some of the stuff fans love about the Doctor, like crazy plans to save the day.
