Choosing and Changing Worlds in Guild Wars 2

by on 04/25/2012

It is upon us…the first public beta weekend for Guild Wars 2 starts this weekend and anticipation is building. I have it downloaded right now on my old laptop, because my brand new one is being repaired. So I am sitting here praying this can run it in a few days. Anyways you can always get access to the beta weekends by pre-purchasing the game, if you are too lazy or are still on the fence though this weekend (hopefully) I will put together a photo diary of my time in the new Tyria.

I feel like enough information has been released and everything new I have been pretty up-to-date on through Arenanet so instead of bombarding you with info you already have, I will instead just show you pictures from the battlefield. Speaking of new information though, Arenanet has put up a new blog that details how selecting/changing worlds will work in the game.

Here are the facts for you my gentle wanderers:

1. This weekend home-world selection and world transfers will work just as they will when the game launches.

2. When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world.

3. Once you have selected a home world, all the characters you create will play on this world and will represent it in our world-versus-world (WvW) format.

4. While you can change your home world, there is a limit of one world transfer every seven days per account and a charge of 1,800 gems for each transfer.

5. A world transfer moves all of your existing characters to your new home world. Any subsequent characters you create will also play in this new home world.

6. You will also have the option to play with your friends on another world with a free “guesting” feature. With guesting, your characters can play on any world where you have friends—with certain restrictions. For instance, you will not be able to participate in WvW while guesting.

7. All players will be able to receive 2,000 gems free for the Beta Weekend Event, so you will be able to purchase a world transfer if you find yourself in need of one.

Below are all the worlds that will be available for the Beta Weekend for US/UK. I am leaning towards Yak’s Bend myself, that was my real first moment that I felt like a true adventurer, when I reached Yak’s Bend. If you find yourself undecided you should come to Yak’s Bend with me and add me: Dee Cazo. Even if you don’t play with me it will at least show that some people read these jumbles of words I call an article.
