At C.E.S. last month SteelSeries announced a slew of new gaming peripherals. One of those items announced was the SteelSeries Kana gaming mouse, AKA. the Designed by Gamers Mouse. SteelSeires had help designing this mouse from a handful of championship gaming teams, including SK Gaming, Fnatic Team, and others. The result is a sleek high performance gaming mouse that will give both right handed and left handed gamers the edge.
The Kana falls in-between two other SteelSeries mice, the smaller Kinzu and the larger Sensi. All three mice sport similar functions including 6 buttons, a high performance optic sensor and other comfort features. The first thing I noticed about the Kana is that is is incredibly light in weight. You’ll really notice that after hours of playing Battlefield 3 that you really won’t feel the mouse in your hand. It just feels like your moving your hand around on your desk.
The next thing you’ll notice about the mouse is that its real sleek, with no extra thumb or side wings. It resembles a larger version of my Apple Magic Mouse. Like all the other SteelSeries gaming mice you will also notice the extra buttons. These are great for a wide range of games, from shooters to MMOs. Most games will allow you to easily assign the buttons in game, however if needed you can use the SteelSeries software to create presets and macros. Also with the SteelSeries Engine software you can adjust the way the mouse functions, increasing the polling rate and CPI for quicker pointer movement on the screen. For me the really plus to this or any gaming mouse if the additional buttons. These gaming mice really make MMOs and other games much more enjoyable moving what would be a keystroke to a mouse button.
The SteelSeires Kana continues to showcase the companies skill at creating great feeling and great performing gaming mice. For lefties who always seem left out in the gaming mouse department this will be a welcomed addition to your gaming rig. Personally I’m still a bit more fond of the SteelSeries World of Warcraft gaming mouse, as I like the larger size and the thumb and side wings. But the WoW mouse really is for MMOs and not as good as the Kana or the other mice with the same style when playing first person shooters. If you are still playing games on that standard two button mouse your computer came with, then you should do yourself a favor and pick up the Kana from SteelSeries. At $49.99 it’s a great addition to your gaming PC.
