SteelSeries produces a large number of high performance gaming peripherals, such as our recently reviewed Spectrum 7XB Headset, to gaming keyboards, and various gaming mice. Being a casual MMO gamer I had a chance to put the SteelSeries World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse Legendary Edition through its paces in the world of Azeroth. And I must say my experience was amazing.
The World of Warcraft Gaming mouse is one of SteelSeries top of the line mice, plus it’s an officially licensed Blizzard product. This means unlike other gaming mice on the market you get some great features but also seamless integration with WoW. Sporting 11 buttons this mouse gives you lots of options when it comes to using this mouse while playing WoW. You have a few choices when setting this mouse up in-game, you can plug it in and start taking out mobs with its preset button functions or you can customize each button and bind them to your action bars or set-up custom macros to your heart’s content. And because this is an official Blizzard product you have access to all the settings of the mouse right in the game! For myself I went the route of binding each of the button to various slots on my action bars. Using the majority of mouse buttons then for various attacks and the single left-side button to activate some form of instant healing. Coming from a lower end gaming mouse with only 5 buttons I was afraid 11 would be overwhelming. But I was wrong, as my constant reliance on mouse clicks and not using the keyboard really worked well with having more abilities bound to the mouse. If you are like me and don’t like using your keyboard numbers to attack then you’ll love having a majority of your controls in your hand.
One thing I should point out, even though this gaming mouse has 11 buttons, all 11 buttons will only be functional within World of Warcraft. While you can use this mouse in any other games you will be limited to only 5 of the buttons to the games controls, the normal 3 mouse buttons(left, right and wheel clicks) plus any 2 other buttons which you can map in the mouse’s software . The reason behind this is that windows HID-mouse drivers only support 5 buttons max, and World of Warcraft has specialized drivers for this mouse within the game’s files to use all of its functions.
The form of the mouse is also incredibly comfortable. It fits well in my hand and the width of the mouse allows you to rest your thumbs and pinky rather well. The only design issue I had was, I felt the right side thumb buttons could have been spaced better, the two vertical buttons felt fine, but the two horizontal buttons raised spots felt spread out just a hair much. The World of Warcraft mouse also sports a sick looking visual design. Sporting a stunning lighting bolt the design takes cues from the Blessed Blade of the Windseeker. Also the mouse has an illuminated center emblem, which you can customize the pulse rate and color. This mouse looks just as good as it works.
The SteelSeries World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse Legendary Edition, is a really solid gaming mouse. From its solid comfortable design, to its customizable functions. If you are still playing WoW on a standard two button mouse you really are missing out. This mouse is perfect for those late night raids with your guild or those weekend long solo quest grinds.
