Atlus has just released a trailer introducing Vincent, the reluctant, indecisive protagonist of the upcoming game Catherine. This unique game follows Vincent’s trials as he struggles to decide if he is ready to settle down with his long term girlfriend Katherine. The situation gets more complicated after he meets Catherine–a younger, attractive and enigmatic woman.
A decidedly uncommon experience, Catherine combines social simulation with puzzle platforming to create what has been called an an erotic horror adventure video game. The game itself is split into two parts, Daytime and Nightmare sequences. The daytime sequence is where Vincent will interact with his friends as well as deal with his relationship with both Katherine and Catherine. The Nightmare sequence is where the bulk of gameplay takes place, and involves controlling Vincent while he climbs giant staircases that are crumbling beneath him. To accomplish this, Vincent must push, pull, and climb blocks while avoiding any danger along the way. There is also an overall morality system that affects how Vincent develops through the story and has an effect on the outcome of the story, resulting in multiple endings.
Catherine is set to release July 26th on both the Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
