Good side scrolling action games were a staple in arcades and on home consoles during the 90s. Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, and many more kept gamers furiously smashing buttons as they beat up waves upon waves of enemies. As the next generation of consoles progressed, this genre seemed to all but fade away. Luckily for fans of this type of gameplay, UTV Ignition Games and Vanillaware just announced a new game called Dragon’s Crown which is sure to appease both new and old fans of the old school beat ‘em ups.
Set for release in Spring 2012, Dragon’s Crown has the same look as Vanillaware’s other games Odin Sphere and Muramasa : The Demon Blade. The main difference between this game and the previous entries is that Dragon’s Crown will be the company’s first game developed with HD graphics, taking advantage of both the PS3 and Vita hardware.
According to a press release, Dragon’s Crown will feature easy-to-learn controls so that anyone can pick up a controller and dive right into the action quickly. With six classes to play and a host of customization options, the game appears to have great replay value. In addition to being able to play the game in a single player mode, there will also be an online co-op component that will allow up to four adventurers to team up and hack their way through armies of enemies.
There was also talk of interoperability between the PS3 and Vita, but details on that will be released later on in the year.
