Nintendo’s Pokémon Global Link service was supposed to launch March 30 in the US and in Europe. Due to the recent earthquakes and disasters that hit Japan this month, Nintendo has decided to delay the service in hopes of aiding the country as it recovers.
“The Pokémon Global Link was scheduled to launch on March 30, 2011. As a result of the earthquake in Japan and the need to conserve energy resources, the launch date has been temporarily delayed,” reads the official website. “When a new launch date is determined, it will be published here on the Pokémon Global Link. We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience caused by this delay.”
Pokémon Global Link offers players of Pokémon Black and White the chance to take their Pokémon with them to the Dream World allowing the player to interact with them via the Global Link website. Players can play games via their browser, acquire items, and even befriend some Pokémon they can then migrate to their games.
The website also offers the Pokémon Battle Union that provides players with live leaderboards and rankings to track your progress and battle records. Nintendo also will run tournaments from time to time with great prizes in store for the top ranking trainers.
When the Japanese Global Link website launched, its servers crashed within 24 hours due to massive traffic from Pokémon fans all around the country. This delay, however, means players will now have more time to prepare their teams for all the official tournaments Nintendo has planned. Until then, our thoughts are with Japan as we wish them all the best during these difficult times.
