As Japan tries to rebuilds after the earthquake and tsunami that hit its shores on March 11, many are lending their aid and support. I’m sure you’ve seen news reports of charities and individuals who are raising money for the country’s relief efforts, but Play for Japan is dear to many a gamer’s heart.
Play for Japan is made up of volunteers and is raising money for Japan by auctioning off various video game related items donated by game developers, publishers, and other trusted journalists. Many of the items are rare collectibles that have been signed and autographed by people like Shigeru Miyamoto or authentic video game paraphernalia that is hard to come by.
100% of the proceeds from the auctions will be donated to the American Red Cross to support the organization in its efforts to aid and assist Japan.
For example, today Sega announced a batch of 20 items that will be auctioned off starting today. Some of the items, including a Sonic the Hedgehog 15th Anniversary Statue, are listed below.
- Yakuza track jacket
- Signed original copy of Valkyria Chronicles for PS3
- Sonic The Hedgehog 15th Anniversary Statue
- SEGA Dreamcast Hoodie
- Yakuza 4 Model Car Kit
- Sonic Colors Kiosk Station Art
- Outrun™ Art signed by SEGA legend Yu Suzuki
Be sure to check out Play for Japan as you might not just be scoring some great video game items, but you will be making a big difference in the lives of many Japanese people who have suffered a lot during these past couple of weeks.
