Rock Band 3 gets it’s second large dose of DLC with the release of the Bon Jovi Greatest Hits Pack.  The pack includes 12 of Bon Jovi’s biggest hits, plus 3 similar tracks from Deftones, New Order and Talking Heads.  The tracks are as follows:

·         Bon Jovi – “Bad Medicine”

·         Bon Jovi – “Blaze of Glory”

·         Bon Jovi – “Have a Nice Day”

·         Bon Jovi – “I’ll Be There For You”

·         Bon Jovi – “It’s My Life”

·         Bon Jovi – “Lay Your Hands On Me”

·         Bon Jovi – “Livin’ on a Prayer (RB3 version)” X

·         Bon Jovi – “Runaway” X

·         Bon Jovi – “Wanted Dead or Alive (RB3 version)” X

·         Bon Jovi – “We Weren’t Born to Follow”

·         Bon Jovi – “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”

·         Bon Jovi – “You Give Love a Bad Name (RB3 version)” X

·         Deftones – “My Own Summer (Shove It)” X

·         New Order – “Blue Monday” X

·         Talking Heads – “Burning Down the House” X

After spending some time with the pack I must admit not only are these solid tracks that had me cranking the stereo, but are also really enjoyable to play in the game.  I’m also really liking the new DLC model of releasing large albums of individual artists.  While the pricing might be intimidating to some, at least you have the choice of picking and choosing the tracks you want.  Also I should point out that the tracks are now much more complex then back during Rock Band 1, now you have multiple lyrics, as well as the new Keys and Pro Keys tracks included.  I was also a bit thrown by the Pro Guitar parts requiring an additional add-on cost, but I have a feeling a lot less people have gone down the Pro Guitar route compared to the number of keyboard players.  The tracks obviously integrate into the game in many ways, and you can jump right into a full setlist of them.  One thing though that I’m not a big fan of is if you play the full Bon Jovi DLC setlist the game does a music video type onscreen show, instead of having your band in the different venues.  And while the music video fireworks show is nice, they just seem like an after thought.  It would be awesome to see these big DLC packs take the route of Beatles Rock Band/ Green Day Rock Band, where you get the actual bands performing on screen, I’m sure thats not very cost effective but I think it would make buying these packs a much easier choice.

Even with the less then special video display the tracks are slamming and a must for all Jovi fans.  This pack also got me real pumped for the upcoming John Lennon and Billy Joel packs as well!!

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.
