Earlier this week Activision brought it’s smash hit console music rhythm game Guitar Hero to the iPhone and iPod Touch.  Similar to other music games on the handheld, Guitar Hero uses a tap system, but also employes various swipes and the all important Star Power.  Gamers will get 6 songs to start with 4 of which come from great artists such as The Rolling Stones and Queen, two songs are from bands I’ve never heard of, and I would have enjoyed the initial game to have 6 top notch well known songs.  Guitar Hero offers in game app purchases of song packs, you’ll get 3 tracks from various artists for $1.99.  Currently the additional songs are a bit sparse but over time there will be plenty of extra songs to rock out with.  The game on first load will also scan your ipod music library and alert you when some of your favorite artist become available.

Overall this was a fun game and put together real well.  I reviewed this on an iPhone 3G and had some hiccups with the game, but after checking it out on a 3Gs the game ran a lot smoother.  If you are a Guitar Hero junkie this is a great game for you to keep your addiction fed while on the road.  For more of my thoughts and a look at the game check out my video review below.

A copy of Guitar Hero for iOS was provided to us for this review.
