A few weeks back at EA’s Swing into Spring event, we got a chance to spend some time with EA’s latest online web based title, Need For Speed World.  SImilar to the recent Tiger Woods Online, Need For Speed World is an online only massively multiplayer web based game.  Taking cues from recent Need For Speed titles NFS: Most Wanted and the NFS: Underground titles, the development has combined all the great aspects of those games into one.  Gamers find themselves in a massive open world environment with over 150 miles of roads.  NFS World is not only a game but a massive social experience.  You’ll be able to build friends lists, chat, compare stats and show off your created cars.

The game looks real good.  Graphics are top notch for an online based game and controls with the mouse and keyboard are also very solid and intuitive.  Since this is an open world game you have many choices from just being a Sunday Driver to being a hardcore street racer.  But watch out, the cops are out there!  Players of the console versions will feel right at home as the games HUD and maps as they look very similar.  You can pop up the map to see where events are located and drive to them, or with a few click just teleport right into the event.
As you play the game you will face other live opponents both in races and just driving around town.  Since you are driving souped up tuner cars, tuning and customization will also be a big part of the game.  You can customize parts both performance and aesthetic.  Body parts, to vinyl graphics can all be customized to your desire.

Being a big fan of Tiger Woods Online’s great social aspects and being a big fan of racing titles and the Need For Speed series I can’t wait to get more time with this game.  The game launches this Summer but the Beta is about to begin and you can head over to the official site to sign-up.
