VGR Staff Holiday Gift Guide: Andy’s Guide

For me the holidays are about spending time playing games with my friends and family. Cooperative play is our preferred style so this season here is a guide to the best co-op games of the year.

BorderlandsDLC4Borderlands
If you’re looking for a game with a lot of shooter action Borderlands is a great place to start. With four different character classes there is a one to fit the play style for every gamer. The game is at its best when you’re playing it cooperatively and with a lot of replay value and a lengthy campaign it will keep you busy for the long haul.

Halo 3 ODST
Bungie has once again put together a great game. Since you’re no longer playing as Master Chief there is a lot more strategy needed to keep yourself going on the higher difficulties. Playing cooperatively gives you more strategic options for flanking and covering your team mates.

The Beatles Rock Band or Lego Rock BandBeatlesRockband072222
Both of these Rock Band games support using your existing Rock Band peripherals and are great for their intended audience. For gamers playing with their parents, aunts, or uncles The Beatles Rock Band will bring the group together with one of the greatest bands of their generation. If you’re going to be gaming with younger siblings or cousins the Lego Rock Band is a perfect fit because of its Super easy mode where the only thing required is to strum the guitar.

Splosion Man
If you’re clan is a fan of classic platforms Splosion Man on Xbox Live Arcade is the best new platformer of the year. With 50 co-op specific levels it will take a lot of cooperation and team work to complete them all.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
This throw back to the classic beat-em-up with some RPG elements added is fun for all ages. Playing as your favorite super heroes is entertaining, but when you play cooperatively you have additional special attack options that really boost the fun level.

Madden NFL 10
MaddenAFCeast201Sports fans can always fall back to the classic football game. Now with co-op support so you can play on the same team instead of just against each other it is nice for when you’re playing with someone who is not as familiar with the game. Both of you can enjoy playing the AI together instead of against each other keeps less experience players from getting frustrated.
